Alverno College's RN to BSN program for women is intended for the Associate Degree or diploma prepared nurse. The program is designed to build on existing skills and knowledge of working RNs in a variety of setting and to be supportive of your many life responsibilities and personal obligations. The program can be completed in two years. Classes meet every other weekend (Friday night, Saturday, Sunday). Alverno-provided clinicals are at regular class times. The Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing offers unique formats for undergraduate and graduate programs. Students are able to obtain their registered nurse (RN) license by completing the Associate of Science (ADN) degree. Students who desire to achieve the Bachelor of Science (BSN) degree then progress into the BSN Completion program. The BSN Completion program prepares Associate Degree Nursing students (ADNs) or current registered nurses (RNs) to practice professional nursing with a broad knowledge base. Our flexible RN to BS program can meet the time and travel restraints of participants, including those who have limited access to on-campus offerings. Most of the coursework can be completed online through the BSN@Home program. Courses can also be taken at the UW-Milwaukee or UW-Parkside campuses. Students can progress through this program on a full or part-time basis to accommodate personal and professional commitments. This program is for the RN who holds a diploma or associate degree in nursing who desires to earn a baccalaureate degree. To be considered, one must be an RN with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The RN to MS program offers a time and cost-effective way for registered nurses to earn their baccalaureate and master's degrees on a full or part-time basis. Students progress to graduate work while simultaneously completing a baccalaureate degree in nursing. Students complete 12 credits of graduate core courses (earning a B or better) while enrolled in the RN to BS program. In the last semester of this program, students apply for graduate program admission. At the completion of the program, students are prepared for advanced nursing practice in both community and institution based settings. Options: Clinical Nurse Specialist or Family Nurse Practitioner.

Through our integrated curriculum, you will be prepared as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Educator. As a CNS, you may work in adult health, advanced diabetes management, or gerontology. Family Nurse Practitioner - The UW Oshkosh College of Nursing MSN Family Nurse Practitioner emphasis offers a combination of online and face-to-face classes, providing a scholarly blend of teaching formats. The 48-credit program may be completed in 2, 3, or 4 years. The College of Nursing has stellar pass rates on the national NP certification exams. UW Oshkosh College of Nursing is currently working in collaboration to obtain an entitlement to plan for a future DNP emphasis.

Nurse Educator - The UW Oshkosh College of Nursing MSN Nurse Educator emphasis is a 37-credit program that may be completed in three to four semesters of full-time study. A part-time program also is available. Class and course format is both on-line and face-to-face. Students practice-teach in classroom and clinical settings with an emphasis on their specialty area of practice in the last practicum.

Clinical Nurse Leader - The UW Oshkosh College of Nursing MSN CNL emphasis is a 37-credit option for nurses who desire client-centered practice as well as coordination of care and leadership activities. The College of Nursing partners with the student's institution for provision of clinical experiences in assessment; leadership; evidence-based practice; health promotion and risk-reduction; outcomes; and collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The CNL emphasis has a final 300 hour immersion practicum providing an internship-type experience that transitions the CNL student into their position. Both fulltime and part-time options are available. Class and course format is both online and face-to-face.

Special Programs - The UW Oshkosh College of Nursing offers a Graduate Achievement Program (GAP) which provides a FNP certificate for nurses who have a Masters degree in an area other than NP work and who wish to become NPs. The UW Oshkosh College of Nursing RN to BSN to MSN completion program allows RNs, who are obtaining a BSN from the BSN-at-Home undergraduate program, to take electives from the MSN curriculum and thus ease their transition into the UW Oshkosh Master's program. UW Oshkosh College of Nursing offers a Natural Alternative Complementary Health Care 10-credit certificate program for post-baccalaureate and post-Master's students.

MSN Concentration areas are Nurse Educator and Adult Nurse Practitioner. Post MSN Certificates are available in each of these tracks. Courses are offered partially online, reducing number of trips to campus each semester for commuters. When on campus, one day a week programming for required theory classes is planned. Curriculum is completed over three years, with 6-7 credits per semester, making the program more manageable for those with jobs and families. Clinical experiences are in last year and the number of hours required is dependent on track chosen. Programs under development (pending approvals and adequate interest) are DNP, FNP, and CNL. Class sizes are small; instructors are supportive.
